circa 1807, with octagonal 7in. smoothbore barrels, the top-flat inlet with a white metal poincon signed 'TATHAM & EGG' in raised letters, small blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight, platinum line and touch-holes at breech, martial trophy engraved to the top-tang, flat, slightly curved bevel-edged step-tailed locks signed 'TATHAM & EGG' (the left refreshed), roller springs with rain-proof pans, sliding safes behind the hammers, engraved mainspring covers, coarsely chequered walnut pistol-grip butt with flared flat-based pommel surrounded by and engraved iron band, the heel inlet with an engraved iron oval plate marked 'TATHAM & EGG'S IMPROVEMENT' together with the serial number, the wrist with a white-metal oval escutcheon engraved with a bear's paw armorial, engraved flat-fronted trigger-guard bow and worm-ended brass tipped ebony ramrod mounted to the left hand side of barrels
