A PAIR OF INDIAN DHAL SHIELDS, 19th Century; 1) 23in. diameter elephant hide, two hide arm straps secured with steel fittings attaching to four decorative bosses on the shield front, shield has flaking to the hide, is miss-shapen, one strap broken; 2) 17in. diameter painted hide with raised edge, polychromatic stylised images of two tigers each taking a deer and two elephants, reverse with four steel loops for arm straps attached to the front with four decorative brass bosses in the shape of a buddha's head, hide with some flaking causing losses to the decoration, steel loops heavily rusted
