A 12-BORE DOUBLE BARRELLED PERCUSSION BIG GAME RIFLE RETAILED BY ROBERT GARDEN, CIRCA 1865, serial no. 254, with 26 in, barrels, the top rib engraved near the breech "ROBT. S GARDEN, 29 PICCADILLY, LONDON', and fitted with one fixed and four hinged platinum lined leaf-sights, the side of the left barrel engraved with Hindi character and the number 254, bar-action border decorated locks, with retailers name to centre 'ROBT. S. GARDEN', the cocks border engraved to match, iron mounted walnut half-stocked, with circular patch-box and scroll trigger-guard
Provenance: Robert Spring Garden was established at 29 Piccadilly circa 1861-77, he also operated at 200 Piccadilly as Garden & Son the firm were army accoutrement makers and gun suppliers they specialised on the Indian market.
