for 1870-71, first production type with round 8in. barrel, raised sighting rib signed by the maker and with patents to 1869, crescent fore-sight, rear-sight notch to barrel locking catch, ejector housing under barrel with small vent hole (found on first 1500 guns only), break-open frame, fluted six-shot cylinder, iron grip-straps with square butt and smooth walnut replacement grips, the whole with open scroll and dot engraving for the South American market (no finish, action at fault, ejector over-ride replaced)
