A FINE .450 (3 1/4IN.) NITRO EXPRESS 'CLASS C' ROTARY-UNDERLEVER DOUBLE-BARRELLED HAMMER RIFLE, serial no. 17191,
28in. Rigby trademark cordite proofed barrels (70grs. Cordite, 480 Grs. bullet), file cut rib engraved in gothic script 'JNO. RIGBY & CO. 72 ST. JAMES'S STREET, LONDON', open sights marked '100 YDS' with sighting triangle and with two folding leaf sights marked 200 and 300 with white metal sight lines, ramped bead fore-sight, the tubes engraved "SPECIAL .450 BORE BIG GAME RIFLE." , "FOR SPECIAL CORDITE CARTRIDGE & BULLET 480 GRAINS", Jones patent rotary-underlever, carved percussion fences, rebounding back-action locks, border engraving with some scrollwork, retaining traces of original colour-hardening, 14 1/4in. figured pistolgrip stock, border engraved and colour-hardened steel pistolgrip-cap, sling swivels and including 1in. rubber recoil pad, fore-end with grip-catch release lever, weight 11lb. 1oz., in its brass-cornered canvas and leather case

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was sold to a Captain Greville in 1905.

Two letters accompanying the rifle by Holland & Holland, dated 28th February 1967 and 17th March 1967 indicate that the rifle was subsequently sold through them at that time and a swing tag 'Shooting Report' by Holland & Holland, dated 19th October 1966 illustrates a four shot group at 100 yards listed as being '3" x3 (overall).

Captain Hon. Alwyn Henry Fulke Greville equerry to HM The King. Born February 1854, 2nd son of the 4th Earl of Warwick. He served in the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He resided at 52 South Audley Street, London.
