circa 1840, with deeply rifled octagonal 4 3/4in. barrel, white-metal fore-sight, carved snail, standing notch rear-sight to front of the scroll engraved top-tang, squared scroll engraved box-lock action with radiused corners, dolphin headed side-hammer, finely chequered walnut butt with central trapdoor to the iron butt-cap, belt-hook mounted to the left hand side of action, guarded trigger and captive iron under-barrel ramrod on an applied rib
