A 12-BORE ROTARY-UNDERLEVER DOUBLE-BARRELLED HAMMER RIFLE, serial no. 4144,
26in. black powder only fine etched damascus barrels with broad matt rib, open sights and two folding leaf sights with white metal inlaid sight lines and marked for 150 and 200 yards, bead fore-sight, the centre of the rib with a gold-inlaid cartouche, gold-inlaid 'JOSEPH LANG & SONS. 22. COCKSPUR STREET PALL MALL LONDON.' and with a further decorative gold-inlaid cartouche towards the muzzle, 2 1/2in. chambers, quadruple-grip action with carved percussion fences, non-rebounding back-action locks with bolted high spurred hammers, sprung rotary-underlever, fine acanthus scroll engraving with gold line detailing, 14 1/4in. highly-figured pistolgrip stock (cracked at hand) with cheekpiece, engraved and gold highlighted steel pistolgrip-cap and engraved and gold highlighted steel buttplate, fore-end with grip-catch release lever, decorated en suite, weight 9lb. 15oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was completed on the 9th September 1870 as a '12-bore lever under guard' rifle for 'H.H. JAM SHREE VEEBHAJEE' (sic) of Nawanagar

This will likely refer to H.H. Jam Saheb Shri Vibhaji II Ranmalji, 17th Maharaja Jam Sahib of Nawanagar (b. 1827 - d. April 28. 1895) ruler of the Nawanagar Princely State between 1852 and 1895.
