WESTLEY RICHARDS FOR ALEXR. HENRY
A .577-450 (M/H) SINGLE-SHOT FALLING-BLOCK MILITARY RIFLE, no visible serial number,
dated for 1871, with 33 1/4in. round barrel marked 'HENRY'S PATENT RIFLING', block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, slab-sided action marked 'HENRY'S PATENT' on the left and 'WRA & A Co.' on the right together with the date, non-rebounding plain back-action left hand lock signed 'ALEXR. HENRY', walnut straight-hand stock, smooth iron buttplate, push button release to tip of under-lever opener, walnut three-quarter military style fore-end (chipped at left hand cheek near action) with two iron barrel-bands and nose-cap, complete with iron under-barrel clearing rod

Other Notes: The butt of this rifle is stamped 'N. S. W'. for New South Wales. The 'S' within the reversed arrows is the New South Wales Government 'Sold out of Service' mark and the Rack number 25.

In 1871, the New South Wales Government ordered 2,500 Henry rifles. This was beyond the capacity of the Henry factory, and the rifles were therefore produced under licence by the Westley Richards Arms & Ammunition Company.
