circa 1887, 29in. nitro reproved barrels, the ribs engraved 'JAMES WOODWARD & SONS. 64, ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL' and gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke, slightly loose on actions, No.2 with some pits, treble-grip actions with hidden third bites, removable striker discs, arcaded side-clipped fences, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, ejectors at fault, profusely engraved with fine acanthus scrollwork, the makers name in elaborate cartouches on the lockplates, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 14 1/2in. replacement straight hand stocks (cracks to rear of lockplates) including buttplates, weight 6lb. 7oz.
