A GOOD PAIR OF 20-BORE FLINTLOCK OTTOMAN HOLSTER-PISTOLS WITH GILT DECORATION, UNSIGNED, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1785, with blacked iron 12 3/4in. barrels, the breeches and middle sections profusely overlaid with thick gilt koftgari-work of scrolls and arabesques, gilt bordered broken sighting ribs, long engraved white-metal nose-caps with banded muzzles, flat curved bevel-edged locks profusely covered in gilded borders and floral decoration, en-suite lozenge pans and cocks, the decoration continuing onto the bridleless frizzen fronts and top-jaws, walnut full-stocks fully covered with inlaid wire borders and scrolls, white-metal carved and engraved long-eared butt-caps and wrist escutcheons (traces of gilt wash), pierced and engraved floral scroll sideplates, cast and carved white-metal trigger guard bows and tangs and spirally moulded full-length false ramrod pipes, each pistol approximately 20in. overall and weighing approximately 2 5/8lbs.
