30in. nitro reproved chopperlump barrels, ribs engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL.' and gold-inlaid '1' and '2' at the breech ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, No.1 gun wall thicknesses below recommended minimum, self-opening actions with rounded bars, removable striker discs, toplevers engraved '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, cocking-indicators, fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, retaining virtually full renewed colour-hardening and finish, 14 3/4in. highly-figured replacement stocks with matching fore-end woods, weight 6lb. 10oz. (No.1) and 6lb. 8oz. (No.2), in a brass-cornered oak and leather case with a canvas and leather outer

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the guns were completed on the 13th November 1911 as a pair of 12-bore hammerless ejector guns for 'F.W. Dobson' with 30in. Whitworth Steel barrels.

The records show that the guns were resold to 'G. Forrester' on the 9th October 1913 and subsequently resold on the 30th November 1923 to Sir W. Cooper for Captain A.R. Cooper.

In July 1961 the guns were purchased back from a Major A. Cooper and sold to 'Hubert Faure'
