A MOST UNUSUAL AND RARE FOUR-BARRELLED 24-BORE PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN SIGNED JOHN BELLEW, no visible serial number,
probably Continental and dated for 1862, with 24 3/4in. octagonal profile barrels formed in a square without side-ribs, the top-rib signed in script 'JOHN H. BELLEW', bead fore-sight, gold poincon inlet at breech (illegible) together with gold bands, moulded bosses for each individual nipple (nipples replaced), engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved back-action locks with engraved double headed hammers, the lower heads of each articulated to swing clear sideways via a spring catch, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (non-structural shake in butt to right hand side), inlet engraved iron patchbox to right side of butt, iron furniture including raised lower tang and brass-tipped under-barrel ramrod
