circa 1860, with 28in. heavy octagonal barrel, the last 1/4in. of muzzle turned circular possibly for a ball starter, dove-tailed nickel-bladed fore-sight, elevating buckhorn rear-sight, moulded iron receiver with traces of running vine engraving and originally signed in a vertical bordered irregular panel on the left hand side, shotgun style back-action lock flush-fitting into the ironwork on the right, walnut butt-stock with brass crescent heel-plate and applied toe-plate, brass spurred and raised triggerguard bow and tang, sheet-iron short fore-end and replacement wood ramrod
