circa 1863/64, with octagonal to round 20in. tip-down barrel, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, fold down twin bladed rear-sight, the left of breech marked 'G.W.S.', open iron action with offset central hammer and nipple, the right side with 'MANUFACTURED BY THE MASS. ARMS CO. CHICOPEE FALLS', the left with 'EDWARD MAYNARD PATENTEE MAY 27 1851, DEC 6 1859', walnut butt-stock (some drying hairline cracks), iron heel-plate, serpentine under-lever acting as trigger-guard (one floorplate screw absent), side mounted saddle bar and ring, no provision for fore-end
