MOORE FOR S. & W., USA
A GOOD .32 RIMFIRE SEVEN-SHOT REVOLVER, MODEL 'MOORE'S PATENT', serial no. 6608,
circa 1863, with blued octagonal 5in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'MANF'D FOR SMITH & WESSON BY MOORE'S PAT FIRE ARMS CO.', blued cylinder engraved with three lines around the circumference and marked with the Rollin White bored-through cylinder patent dates, florally engraved silver plated open brass frame, plated grip-straps and trigger guard, smooth walnut grips and under-barrel ejector rod, the whole retaining much original finish

Provenance: The Moore Patent revolver was a well made pistol with many finding favour as private purchase items by Civil War officer's. Unfortunately production was cut short by a law suit brought by Smith & Wesson for infringement of their Rollin White patent for a bored-through cylinder. Moore were forced by the courts to finish the production and sell them (after having been so marked) on behalf of Smith & Wesson. Examples with this marking are very scarce.
