A FINE .36 PERCUSSION REVOLVER SIGNED COLT, MODEL 'No.5 BELT REVOLVER' or 'TEXAS PATERSON', serial no. 854,
for 1838-40 (see note below), with octagonal 9in. barrel rifled in eleven grooves, the top-flat signed in script 'PATENT ARMS MG. CO. PATERSON N.J. COLTS PT' prefixed and suffixed with wavy lines terminating in stars, applied brass fore-sight (traces of gilt), twin gold ines at muzzle and breech, double curved barrel lug, plain grooved key, plain cylinder with roll engraved 'stagecoach holdup' scene bordered by gold bands, the front band further bordered by silver bands, rounded end to cylinder, notch and ring indexing, broader open iron frame, the recoil shield with capping notch cut out and with a further gold band, folding automatic trigger, rolled tip to hammer-spur, flared smooth walnut grip, serial numbered on the rear face of barrel, the wedge, the cylinder, hammer face, inside of back-strap and possibly elsewhere.

Other Notes: This revolver conforms to the Colt pattern in every way although given its rarity, the possibility of it being a period Mexican or Belgian copy can never be completely ruled out.
