A 13-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 5024,
for 1855, with shortened 28in. damascus barrels, the narrow top-rib signed 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET, LONDON' (refreshed), bead fore-sight, platinum line and vents at breech, fully scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'PURDEY', dolphin-headed hammers with scroll engraved flat-sided necks and drum bases, chequered walnut half-stock with oval escutcheon to wrist, radiused corner rectangular inlet repair to right side of butt (possibly from removal of a presentation plaque), fore-end with repaired split, iron furniture (rubbed, loss to detail) and period replacement ramrod

Other Notes: According to L. Patrick Unsworth's book 'The early Purdeys', gun no. 5024 was completed on the 13th August 1855 with as a 13-bore with 32in. barrels
