A 22-BORE WHEELOCK SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING-RIFLE, UNSIGNED, MODEL 'SAXON TYPE', no visible serial number,
German circa 1680, with slightly swamped octagonal 30 1/2in. barrel (cleaned), dove-tailed fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with additional folding blade, heavily cleaned lock (traces of engraving) with internal wheel, carved and shaped hammer with serpentine cocking piece and engraved detail inhabited by a mythical beast, walnut full-stock with angled butt, sliding patch-box lid of wood with metal inlay, horn heel-plate with iron shoulder-button, carved cheekpiece (circular central escutcheon absent), complex pierced brass sideplate with central vacant shield escutcheon, brass trigger-guard bow with shaped finger-grooves, double set triggers (hogs-bristle trigger blade incomplete), shaped and turned faceted ramrod pipes and replacement ramrod
