A MID VICTORIAN NAVAL OFFICER'S SWORD, possibly German circa 1850-60, with polished fullered straight 27in. blade, carved and chiselled brass hilt with 'D' shaped knucklebow formed as entwined serpents and oak leaves, integral cross-guard with turned down rococo shell guard embossed with a crowned monogram, ribbed lanthorn grip (one missing) and pommel carved in the form of a lions head, complete with its black leather scabbard with brass mounts, the throat mount with fouled anchor device
