A GOOD CASED .650 PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED HOWDAH-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1860, with London proved browned 7in. smoothbore barrels, the top-rib signed 'J. COLLINS, 115, REGENT STREET, LONDON', broad engraved bands at muzzles, scroll engraved rib end with engraved band, platinum line and plugs, high percussion fences, fully scroll engraved top-tang (some colour), colour-hardened slightly curved border and scroll engraved back-action locks signed 'J. COLLINS', sliding safes behind the dolphin-headed hammers (right hammer-spur cracked), walnut half-stock with swept chequered butt, iron butt-cap with central trapdoor, border and scroll engraved trigger-guard bow, double triggers and captive iron ramrod with internal spoon retainer, the whole with a remarkable amount of period finish (barrels possibly rebrowned in antiquity) together with a probably associated oak storage case, flush fitting brass handle to lid, lock and hook closure (lock escutcheon missing), compartmented and lined in green baize and containing a scissors ball mould and a bone nipple-pot
