24 3/4in. nitro reproved barrel (in 2018) engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON.', the knox form engraved 'HOLLAND'S SUPER 30 RIMLESS CARTRIDGE', short matt sight flat with open sights and one folding leaf sight (second folding leaf missing), ramp-mounted bead fore-sight (missing protector), matt top receiver ring with beaded borders, the receiver (with thumb cutout) with telescopic sight side-mount bases, recoil blocks, hinged straddle floorplate with push button release, pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece (much bruising), steel pistolgrip-cap (with trap), sling eyes, 14 3/4in. pull including distressed rubber recoil pad, weight 8lb. 3oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this rifle was completed in its current calibre for Lord Cochrane of Cults.

Thomas Cochrane, 1st Baron Cochrane of Cults, D.L., J.P., L.L.D. was born 2nd April 1857, the second son of the 11th Earl of Dundonald and Louisa Harriet. He was schooled at Eton before entering the Army, first with the 4th Battalion of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, and then the Scots Guards where he served during the Boer campaign. He also held the rank of Lt.-Col. in the 2/7 Black Watch during the Great War. Away from the Army he sat as the Unionist M.P. for North Ayrshire between 1892 and 1910 and also held the post of Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department in Balfour's administration between 1902 and 1905.

Cochrane died 17th January 1951 and was succeeded in the barony by his eldest son, Major the Hon. Thomas Cochrane.
