circa 1870, 30in. black powder only bold damascus barrels, the rib engraved in gothic script 'JOHN HANSON. 244 HIGH STREET. LINCOLN', (rubbed), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, right wall thickness at 18 and some pits, J. Hanson patent action, patent no. 2657 of 26th August 1868, with forward sliding triggerguard barrel bolting release, carved serpentine fences, non-rebounding sidelocks with linked flatside hammers of hare's-ear form, Henry type pin loaded indicators, fine acanthus scroll engraving with crosshatch bordering, the lockplates with game scene vignettes of hound and fowl, the triggerguard with a pointer on point and with 'HANSON'S PATENT 2657', retaining much renewed colour-hardening and finish, 14 3/4in. figured stock including 5/8in. horn buttplate, fore-end with crosspin release and ornately bordered chequering (wood cracked forward of crosspin escutcheons), weight 6lb. 13oz.
