A 36-BORE FLINTLOCK SPORTING RIFLE SIGNED F.X. DIETRICH, GRONENBACH, CIRCA 1775, no visible serial number,
numbered as '2' of a pair, with swamped octagonal iron 27 1/2in. barrel signed 'GRONENBACH' on the top-flat and deeply struck with a large oval makers mark 'F.X. DIET-RICH' on three lines, the pair number bridging the join between breech and top-tang, dove-tailed white metal fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with carved foot, plain flat bevel-edged lock with radiused and pointed tail signed 'F.X. DIETRICH' below the lozenge pan, bridleless frizzen with carved tail to the spring, swan necked cock, walnut full-stock with raised and carved floral decoration behind the top-tang and forwards of the raised cheek-piece, replacement wood lidded patchbox, iron furniture including spurred crescent heel-plate and trigger guard bow with walnut raised and spurred lower tang, carved borders around the furniture and ramrod channel, turned and moulded thimbles and stirrup and button swivels
