NEW HAVEN CONN USA' and 'NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER', later London proofs for cordite, dove-tailed ramp fore-sight, buckhorn rearsight, plain blued receiver, top tang marked 'MODEL 1886' over 'WINCHESTER' over 'TRADE MARK', provision for peep sight (none fitted), plain walnut straight-hand stock, chequered heel-plate, plain fore-end and half magazine, much factory blued finish remaining
