A FINE 24-BORE FLINTLOCK DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, serial no. 7754,
stamped in the wood only, circa 1800, with browned twist 30in. barrels signed near breech in two gold ovals 'BATES' and 'LONDON', applied silver fore-sight, engraved bands and gold lines at breech, engraved top-tang with carved and raised shallow sighting groove, gold lined touch-holes and rainproof pans, flat bevel edged locks signed in gold banners 'BATES', pointed and stepped tails engraved with flushed game-birds, roller frizzens and flushed game-birds engraved to both cock-necks, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (repaired above left lock), iron heel-plate with game engraved top-spur, French style pillar fronted trigger-guard bow with pineapple finial, engraved white metal oval barrel-key escutcheons, moulded iron ramrod throat and original worm-ended ramrod, complete with its W. Keith Neal collection medallion numbered 'G229'
