A 20-BORE FLINTLOCK HORSE-PISTOL SIGNED 'HOFFMANN', no visible serial number,
Dutch or German circa 1750, with round triple-stage 10 3/4in. iron barrel, moulded bands at each intersection, solid top-tang, the breech with sighting groove (possibly added later), slightly curved radiused lock with moulded border and engraving to the pointed tail, carved pan, bridle-less frizzen with signature below the spring, carved walnut full-stock with moulded borders along the fore-end edges, ramrod channel and around the lock, rococo carved apron around the top-tang, large teardrops, chisel engraved brass furniture including bulbous pommel with a central Romanesque bust and long side-spurs, square-backed trigger-guard, carved escutcheon with a quartered crowned coat of arms to the wrist, complex pierced side-plate and turned thimbles, further carving to the fore-end around the ramrod throat and ivory tipped ramrod (butt cracked through in antiquity and repaired)
