A RARE .625 FLINTLOCK SERVICE-RIFLE, MODEL '1815 SOCKET-BAYONET CONVERSION BAKER RIFLE' , serial no. B58,
converted to its current format between 1815-23 from an earlier model, with round iron 30in. barrel, applied blade fore-sight, standing notch rear-sight with additional folding leaf, bayonet bar removed from the right side of muzzle and replaced with a stud below for socket bayonet, Tower proofs at breech, solid top-tang, flat borderline engraved bevel-edged lock signed 'TOWER' to the pointed tail and marked with a crown and 'GR' device below the pan, walnut three-quarter walnut stock with traces of a 'B.O.' stamp forwards of the large brass patch-box (contains original pattern reproduction tools), brass heel-plate, the top-spur with number, carved raised cheek-piece, brass spurred trigger-guard bow, stirrup swivels, brass ramrod pipes and 'New Land Pattern' fore-end cap, possible replacement correct pattern iron ramrod, some shallow pitting to exposed iron surfaces

Other Notes: The rarest of the Baker Rifle variations, no more than 2,000 rifles were converted between 1815-1823 to take the socket bayonet. No Bakers were produced in this style from new, all being converted from the many thousands remaining of the older design. Few survive.
