JOSEPH NEEDHAM 12-BORE 1862 PATENT SIDELEVER SINGLE-BOLT SNAP-ACTION SELF HALF-COCKING BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMERGUN, serial no. 1303, 30in. black powder only damascus barrels, rib engraved 'JOSEPH NEEDHAM. PATENTEE. 26. PICCADILLY. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, right bore dimension marginal, some internal pitting to barrels and chambers, action incorporating Needham patent rotating single bolt sidelever patent, patent no. 1544 of 1862, use number 436, the fences with external cams half-cocking the hammers as the sidelever is pushed down, slim fences and side bolsters, non-rebounding sidelocks with high-spurred hare's-ear hammers (one spur slightly bent), permanently attached fore-end, missing grip safety, best border and fine acanthus scroll engraving, brushed finish overall, 14 1/2in. stock including steel buttplate, weight 7lb. 3oz.
