Most of the book is a listing of all known workmen in the gunmaking trade from his apprenticeship to his death, and the dates of contracts he had with the Board of Ordnance, Hudson's Bay Company, East India Company and other employers, the entries are illustrated outstandingly by contemporary pictures of gunmakers, their places of work, inventions, patents, documents, and trade cards, appendices include estate inventories, statistics, and reproductions of gunmaker's marks.
