A .455 DOUBLE-ACTION SERVICE-REVOLVER SIGNED SMITH & WESSON, MODEL 'TRIPLE-LOCK', serial no. 9829, circa 1910, with 6 1/2in. barrel marked with patents to 1906, crescent fore-sight, top-strap with sighting-groove, swing-out fluted cylinder, solid frame and chequered walnut grips, retaining a strong amount of original finish and complete with a leather service holster (belt loop missing)

Provenance: This revolver was the former property of Captain Robert Chevallier Cooke OBE, MC, MA (Magdalene College Oxford). Recipient of the Order of the Nile. Joined the 4th Battalion The Norfolk Regiment in 1914, serving in Mesopotamia. He was wounded in the siege of Kut 1916 and in 1919 was seconded to the Egyptian Army in Cairo where he served in the Eastern Arab Corps. In 1927 he left the army & joined the Sudan Political Service, where he became District Commissioner of Juba from 1930-1945.
