WILKINSON SWORD LTD., LONDON BOXED COMMEMORATIVE PONIARD, MODEL 'D-DAY FIFTY YEAR ANNIVERSARY', manufactured in 1994, with polished narrow 10 3/4in. blade etched with the inscription 'THEY SHALL GROW NOT OLD AS WE THAT ARE LEFT GROW OLD, AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM NOR THE YEARS CONDEMN, AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM', the forte etched with a Wilkinson starburst, the tip with a depiction of a winged Liberty figure, the reverse with '1944-1994' in a banner and 'TO COMMEMORATE THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF OPERATION OVERLORD AND NEPTUNE, THE ALLIED LANDINGS ON THE COAST OF FRANCE ON D-DAY, THE 6TH JUNE 1944' and the maker's trademark at the forte, carved and gilded drooping cross-guard mounted with polychromatic D-Day shield device, smooth walnut grip swelling just below the centre, the end-piece with a stylised fleur-d-lys pommel, not supplied with a scabbard, complete with its red leatherette box with satin lined lid bearing the Wilkinson trademark, the tray lined in burgundy velvet, appearing unused
