circa 1874, 30in. black powder only bold damascus barrels with file cut rib, the tubes engraved 'J. ADSETT. 4 UPPER BRIDGE ST. CANTERBURY', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, some pitting, unusual square-sectioned standing breech with dovetail join to the centre of the face, the face stamped 'J. ADSETT CANTERBURY', rebounding sidelocks with flat section hammers with spurs of hare's-ear form, thumbhole underlever operating on a Purdey double bite, beaded border and acanthus scroll engraving with game scene vignettes, 14 1/2in. figured stock including 5/8in. wooden extension, fore-end with Deeley & Edge patent release, weight 6lb. 13oz.
