A .450 SIX-SHOT SERVICE-REVOLVER, MODEL '1872 MKIII ADAMS', serial no. 12663,
dated for November 1878, with blued 6in. octagonal black powder barrel, (missing fore-sight), John Adam's oval trade mark and logo together with 'ADAMS'S PATENT' to right hand back of frame, 'WD' over 'III' to left hand side front, the 'W.D.' mark struck out, plain matching number cylinder, centre-mounted swing-out ball-tipped ejector-rod, lift-up loading gate, chequered walnut grips and butt-cap with lanyard ring, complete with a later open-topped leather holster

Provenance: The vendor states that this revolver was bought in an auction of confiscated weapons in the then Bechuanaland in the fifties by his father. it probably came from the Boer War or before. He had a theory that in originating from Bechuanaland it dated from the Jameson Raid that started from Pitsane in that country. The Matabeleland Mounted Police were stationed there prior to the raid.
