first quarter of the 20th century, with octagonal 28in. barrel, the top-flat signed with the maker's address and patent dates to 1893, the left hand side marked 'SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL', dove-tailed beaded blade fore-sight, buckhorn rear-sight, slab-sided receiver, the top marked 'MARLIN SAFETY', the top-tang marked 'MODEL 1893', walnut butt-stock with iron semi-crescent carbine-style heel-plate, iron finger-lever, plain walnut fore-end and full-length magazine tube, a good amount of faded finish remaining
