A RARE .450 (2.6in.) SINGLE-SHOT BACK-POSITION MATCH-RIFLE, MODEL 'FRASER'S 1880 PATENT', serial no. 409 (5),
last quarter of the 19th century, with heavy round reblued tapering 34in. barrel signed in gothic script at breech-end 'JOHN RIGBY & CO, DUBLIN & LONDON' and forwards of this signature 'RE-BORED & RE-RIFLED BY DANL. FRASER & CO, EDINBURGH', micro adjustable tunnel fore-sight with ring element and built in spirit-level, no provision for rear-sight, plain falling-block receiver operated via a side-lever and signed on the nocksform 'FRASER'S PATENT No.5', the right hand side of action marked '409', chequered walnut pistol-grip butt-stock with folding long-range vernier ladder-sight recessed into comb, chequered horn heel-plate, moulded horn grip-cap, guarded trigger with sliding safe within the guard, chequered walnut beavertail fore-end with moulded horn tip and complete with its original leatherette pocket-case lined and compartmented with blue velvet and containing an assortment of fore-sight elements and different sized apertures for the back-sight and with further storage for the fore-sight itself when removed

Provenance: Jonathan Grenville Kirton in his book 'Daniel Fraser, Gun & Rifle Maker of Edinburgh, Scotland' states that Fraser's production serial no. '409' with patent use and frame no. '5' was probably the third 1880 Model produced in 1881
