probably a patent use number, circa 1850, with octagonal 5in. barrel, Birmingham proofs, plain cylinder with borderline engraving to the leading edge, borderline engraved open iron frame with short top-strap, the right hand side of action marked 'PATENT' along with the serial number, chequered walnut grips, iron grip-straps with thumb-web spur and domed pommel-cap
