first quarter of the 20th century, with octagonal 26in. barrel, the top-flat signed with the maker's address and patent dates to 1893, the left hand side marked 'SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL', folding globe fore-sight, buckhorn rear-sight, slab-sided receiver, the top marked 'MARLIN SAFETY', period peep-sight to the wrist, from another marked 'MADE IN ENGLAND', walnut butt-stock with iron semi-crescent heel-plate, iron finger-lever, plain walnut fore-end and full-length magazine tube, much blued finish, colour gone from receiver
