manufactured in 1862, with round 8in. barrel signed on the top 'ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA', stepped cylinder with traces of roll engraved scene, open iron three-screw frame marked 'COLTS PATENT, iron back-strap, brass trigger guard bow, the heel and recoil shield cut for shoulder-stock and fitted with a smooth walnut grip (hollowed at heel), all matching numbers, minimal traces of finish, together with a later wood case adapted for this pistol, compartmented and lined in green velvet and containing an original iron Colt's Patent double cavity mould, a later flask, cleaning rod and some period caps
