for 1898, with round tapering 28in. barrel, blade fore-sight, buckhorn rear-sight, the barrel stamped 'NICKEL-STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER', plain receiver signed 'MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER'S REPEATING ARMS COMPANY NEW HAVEN CONN, USA' together with patent dates, the top-tang marked 'WINCHESTER MODEL 1895', straight-hand butt-stock, crescent heel-plate, plain fore-end with inlet ebony tip and box magazine, minimal traces of original finish remaining
