A RARE 54-BORE PERCUSSION SELF-COCKING REVOLVER WITH BRASS FRAME, MODEL 'BENTLEY'S PATENT', serial no. 51,
circa 1856, with iron octagonal micro-rifled 7 5/8in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'J. BENTLEY & SONS 40 LIME ST. LIVERPOOL, MAKERS TO H.R.H. PRINCE ALBERT', dove-tailed fore-sight, barrel fixed to the frame by cross-wedge and pin, border and scroll engraved brass open frame (action sticky), the left hand side marked 'BENTLEY'S PATENT No. 51', plain blued cylinder, double action only hammer with provision for hammer safety (missing), smooth walnut grips, engraved brass grip-straps, heel-plate and trigger-guard bow, traces of original finish with some mild shallow pitting
