A 40-BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING or OFFICER'S PISTOL, serial no. 4208,
for 1805/6, with rebrowned twist iron octagonal 10in. barrel, silver shallow crescent fore-sight, colour hardened breech with inset platinum maker's poincon reading 'JOSEPH MANTON PATENT' with a crown, further platinum line and touch-hole, standing notch rear-sight to the engraved top-tang, border and trophy engraved lock signed 'JOSEPH MANTON LONDON', sliding safe behind the hammer, roller frizzen, the front face signed 'JOSEPH MANTON PATENT' together with the patent use number '1638', rainproof pan, walnut half-stock with capped and chequered bag-shaped butt, engraved trigger-guard bow, horn fore-end tip, silver barrel-key escutcheons and replacement ramrod

Other Notes: This pistol is not listed in Neal and Backs volumes, 'The Mantons' and 'The Manton Supplement' although similar pistols appear both before and after in the serial number trail
