A SCARCE 40-BORE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER-PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1760, with iron 10in. slightly swamped smoothbore barrel carved with a full length sighting-rib terminating in a bullet tip just short of the muzzle and two short side-ribs, the majority of the barrel and sighting rib inlaid with silver wire scrolls, the rib further inlaid 'I. CHRISTOPH KUCHENREITER' (sic) within a cartouche and deeply struck at breech with an inlaid makers mark, silver fore-sight mounted on a silver four-pointed star background, standing and folding rear-sight to top-tang, the tip of tang engraved with a number '1' (cracked at nail), borderline engraved radiused lock with pointed tail and signed 'I.A. KUCHENREITER SENIOR' forwards of the hammer, carved mount to pan, bridled frizzen with roller foot, carved frizzen-spring, carved hammer (crack starting at neck), walnut full-stock carved with borders around the furniture and flower detail, flared flattened butt with iron short-eared butt-cap, complex iron escutcheon and side-plate, set-trigger (set inoperative) horn fore-end tip and iron-tipped wood ramrod, the stock cracked through forwards of lock.
