A FINE CASED 54-BORE PERCUSSION FIVE-SHOT DOUBLE-TRIGGER SELF-COCKING REVOLVER SIGNED 'A. CLAYTON, SOUTHAMPTON' PATENT SECOND MODEL, serial no. 3081T
circa 1855, with 6 1/4in. blued octagonal sighted barrel engraved at the muzzle, scroll engraved breech end, border and scroll engraved blued top-strap signed 'A. CLAYTON, SOUTHAMPTON', border engraved colour-hardened cylinder, border and scroll engraved blued frame, bright triggers and detachable patent rammer, chequered walnut butt, blued scroll engraved trigger-guard and colour-hardened pommel, the whole retaining much original finish, London proof marks, TOGETHER WITH its original fitted mahogany case lined in green baize, original 'Alfred Clayton' makers label to the inside of lid, and a full compliment of accessories including a Dixon pistol-flask, 54-bore brass bullet mould marked 'TRANTER'S PATENT', brass-mounted cleaning rod with worm, a tin of Tranter's Lubricating Bullets and a tin of Eley's Metal Lined Caps , the exterior with circular brass escutcheon.
