E. & F. HORSTER, SOLINGEN,
A 1935 PATTERN LUFTWAFFE DRESS DAGGER,
circa 1936, with plain 12in. stiletto blade, cast drooping quillion with sun-wheel swastika, leather spiral grip (grip-wire missing), cast circular pommel with inlaid bronze disc with raised sun-wheel swastika, TOGETHER WITH its original blue morocco leather covered scabbard with three plated fittings and chain hanger (blade with areas of discolouration, hilt with bruising, scabbard worn, leather belt-loop missing from hanger)

Provenance: Introduced in March 1935 the Fliegerdolch (flyers-dagger) was introduced for wear by officers and senior NCO's. It was based upon a similar dagger worn by the DLV (German Air Sports Formation, see Lot 366). Following the introduction of the second pattern Luftwaffe Officers dagger in 1937, the first pattern dagger continued to be worn by junior NCO's and various other ranks who were entitled to wear one of the various air crew badges (Pilot badge, Radio officer, Air Gunner and Flight engineer etc, see Lot 361). Wearing of this dagger was discontinued in December 1944.
