circa 1873, with 28 1/2in. Whitworth-rifled barrel bearing use number '4877', raised matted sighting rib with shallow ramped fore-sight and standing notch rear-sight with two additional folding leaves and a ladder, octagonal form breech, scroll engraved slab-sided receiver, the left side marked 'WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT EXPRESS', the right side with safe lever, chequered walnut pistol-grip butt-stock, partially chequered iron heel-plate with central trapdoor, guarded trigger with front-mounted under-lever opening and chequered walnut splinter fore-end, reblued throughout, front swivel eye at fault, overall length 45 1/2in., weight approximately 8 3/4lbs.
