AN UNUSUAL 12-BORE FLINTLOCK ALL-METAL RIFLE, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
Mediterranean, possibly Greek circa 1800, with two-stage 27 1/2in. barrel of Spanish form, carved girdle at the intersection, bead fore-sight, no provision for rear-sight, solid top-tang, borderline engraved slightly radiused lock with carved and moulded mask at tail, carved cover to the frizzen-spring (lockwork currently frozen), the full-stock completely covered in florally engraved white metal, fish-tailed crescent butt, carved iron trigger-guard, side mounted swivels and iron ramrod, the whole heavily stained and with surface corrosion to iron parts and fitted with a woven sling (missing possibly three sheet-metal barrel-bands), overall length 43 1/2in., weight approximately 6 1/2lbs.
