circa 1856, with octagonal 3 1/2in. barrel, the raised top-rib signed 'SMITH & WESSON, SPRINGFIELD, MASS' together with 1855 and 1859 patent dates, top hinged frame, plain cylinder, spur trigger and chequered period ivory grips, minimal traces of finish remaining
