A RARE EXHIBITION QUALITY CASED .250 PERCUSSION POCKET REVOLVER, MODEL 'DAW'S PATENT', serial no. 2751,
circa 1858, with London proved octagonal 3 1/2in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'JAMES BEATTIE, 205 REGENT ST, LONDON', engraved scrolls at muzzle and breech, further engraved scrolls to rammer mount, plain cylinder, the chambers numbered on the front face '1' through '6', border and scroll engraved open iron frame, self cocking action with spurless hammer, guarded trigger and smooth ivory butt with gold oval escutcheon to pommel, all metalwork gilt washed (thinning), complete in its presentation French walnut case with carved brass corners and Bramah lock (key missing), lined and compartmented in the continental style with dark blue velvet, the inside of lid with gold blocked border and lettering reading J. BEATTIE GUNMAKER, 205 REGENT STREET, LONDON', the tray containing the revolver and a turn-screw and nipple-key, both with turned ivory handles, two larger ivory pots and one smaller, a gilt washed bag-shaped flask of small size, a ball and bullet combination mould marked 'No.250', a cleaning rod and oil-bottle
