AN FAC RATED 12-BORE 1882 PATENT REPEATING SHOTGUN, RETAILED BY CHARLES LANCASTER, serial no. 1233 / 5563,
circa 1885, 30in. black powder only damascus barrel (some pitting), bead fore-sight, 2 1/2in. chamber, bored approx. 3/4 choke, Spencer & Roper patent action, US patent no. 255,894 / UK patent no. 1636 of 1882, with pivoted breech block, damascus tubular magazine with exterior sliding handle which operates loading and ejecting cartridges and cocks the hammer, the triggerguard housing a secondary reversed trigger which also cocks the hammer, action engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER. 151. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.', 'SPENCER PATENT' and with beaded border engraving, retaining traces of original colour-hardening, one tang screw missing, 13 1/2in. stock with small insert repair at top tang, weight 7lb. 14oz.
