A .44 (AMERICAN) SMITH & WESSON MODEL NO. 3 SECOND MODEL 'AMERICAN' SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER, CIRCA 1872, serial no. 8660,
with blued round 8in. barrel, raised sighting rib signed 'SMITH & WESSON, SPRINGFIELD MASS' and patent dates to August 24th 1869, crescent fore-sight, lift up back-sight barrel release combined, automatic ejecting fluted six shot cylinder, blued frame, smooth walnut grips and colour hardened trigger-guard bow, the whole retaining a good amount of original finish with some fading and scratches

Provenance: The S & W Model No 3 single action revolver is more commonly known as the Second Model American and was produced 1872-1874 with a total production of 20,735 units. The serial range continued from the First Model American at approx. 8000 making this an early specimen. They were only made in .44 S & W American and .44 Henry Rimfire
